NPS Recreation area on our way into Redding. |
Our campground was great. Not a state park and not super private, but very comfy. Breakfast in the game room in the mornings, a playground close to us, community fire pit and well maintained. We found out that it gets up to 113 degrees in the summer. I'm glad we arrived in October.
The girls made instant friends with a family of kids just down a few sites. Very sweet family from Hawaii that are traveling like us. What a great week to have buddies because it was Halloween at the end of the week and all the kids had a great time at a community party.

During the week we toured around town and saw the Sundial Bridge. A beautiful pedestrian bridge that crosses the Sacramento River and connects miles of biking/walking call the Sacramento River Trail. The girls were in Heely (the shoes with wheels) Heaven. We explored some of the trails and came back later in the week to check out the Turtle Bay Museum at the base of the bridge.
The Shasta Dam is just outside of town and we spent an afternoon out there. Very cool place with lots of history.
On our weekend we drove a little ways out of town to see Lassen Volcanic National Park. Did a nice hike around Manzanita Lake. I can't remember the exact elevation increase that we made, but the temperature difference from our campsite to here was huge.
