Across the Border

I didn't realize how much of Ohio is farm land.  For that matter, how much of our country, in general, is rural. There were farms everywhere on the drive from Columbus up to Michigan.

While we were in Columbus we camped at Alum Creek SP and it was an okay campground.  We stayed there a couple of nights and explored a bit.  Diego spent a work day at the local IBM office with a team mate.

Next to Michigan.  In Columbus we got in the car with tank tops and in the 80's.  After a couple of hours of driving i looked down at the outside thermometer and it showed 50 degrees.  What the heck? I didn't go up in elevation or anything.  My guess is that we were near the Great Lakes and the cold air was coming from there.  We got out to potty in Toledo, MI and the part that we saw was not very nice.  Cold, grey and industrial.  Three of my least favorite landscapes.

A little further down the road, we stayed at Sterling SP on Lake Erie and it was still quite chilly.  This picture is a little deceiving because the place was actual quite run down and it was, in general, not beautiful, but the picture looks great :)

We weren't able to meet up with Betty Jo at this stop like we had hoped, so we spent most of our time getting our car serviced and stocking up on Trader Joe's before we crossed the border into Canada.
Spent a few nights at Proud Lake Recreation Area, to try to get away from the wind coming off Lake Erie. The part of Michigan we visited did not show us much love.

We crossed the border north of Detroit at Port Huron.  Drove a couple of hours, stopping for some food and then arrived in Burlington, Ontario.  Diego is taking some time at this stop to meet up with work people. His boss, Nate, and family (Lisa, Julia, & Oliver) have been so nice to have us stay with them.

Nice town and people.  Enjoying a bathroom without flip flops is a nice treat :)

Diego met up with his Canadian co-workers and had some fun outing throwing axes.

Sofia and Luna were not up for much exploring.  They were enjoying a house and the luxuries that come along with that.  Also they have been very caught up in the Harry Potter books.  They started them in Pensacola and finished the series 1 month later.  They were slightly addicted, but there are worse addictions.
Girls earned some Canadian spending money for picking dandelions and occupying the kiddos during dinner preparations.

While we were in Burlington we toured the downtown/waterfront area, took a sailboat ride, and even managed to get a couples night out.  Ping pong bar and bowling. Fun!

A "laptop meets water" incident re-routed us south across the border into NY state to pick up a replacement.

Stopped by Niagra Falls.
