We picked this region as our final France stop because Diego's cousins highly recommended it as a great area to visit. There are lots of castles, the Dordogne River with lots of water activities, and town after town of old world cuteness.
Diego's cousins, in Paris, happened to be visiting the area the week before we arrived and our time overlapped by a day so we were able to hang out and explore together.
For lunch we went to place that serves Foie Gras, a French delicacy. I did not try it for a number of reasons, but Diego, who will eat just about anything, did. I didn't learn until later what a sad story it is about how the dish is made. These are the poor, little, future Foie Gras donators below.

We took a tour of a prehistoric cave (Grotte de Rouffignac) and later in the afternoon a boat tour in La Roque-Gageac.

Dinner after a long day |
Our airbnb in Perigueux was right in the middle of town. That was great for getting around.

The town was cute and had food markets most days in the plaza just down from our place. One evening they had a "Marché", which I realized is a festival. Within a small area and between little cobble streets there were 4-5 plazas, each with different concerts/shows going on, and food vendors. We sampled a few of the local favorites.

The weather was very hot (90's) the first few days in town and we took to the river for some canoeing one afternoon.

Diego celebrated a birthday in Perigueux. He took the day off work and we went to one of the many castles in the area. This particular one had rave reviews from families because of all the time-period based games. We were there for hours playing.

At the end of the week we started packing our backpacks and preparing for the long journey down to Barcelona, Spain. Good-bye France.....You are quite beautiful.
