We saw tons of gators, took tours, spent over an hour with one ranger learning about all the different types of birds and how to more easily identify them. While on one of the tours, we had to walk around a huge gator that was sunbathing on the sidewalk. My heart was racing as I passed with my little appetizers.
While we were at the Flamingo Visitors Center, we had a manatee come to the surface and hang out with us for about 10-15 mins. I think she was there because the sailboat next to her had a water drip that she liked. People had been telling us that we might get a quick glace of one if they come to the surface for air, but this one stayed with us on the surface for so long. She turned on her side to show us her fins, she opened her mouth to show us, and kept opening her nose holes. She gave the whole tour :) The cutest part was that when we told her we had to go, she turned on her side and was gone. We decided to name her Glade Evers, because we weren't sure if she was boy or girl and Sofia just finished a book called Prairie Evers.
Diego was ready to go snorkeling, so we spent a day down in Key Largo. We will definitely practice with the girls beforehand next time. It took a while to get them all geared up and and the water was a little chilly at 74 degrees. Not chilly for New Jersey maybe, but chilly :) It is so neat to get a tiny glimpse of what is going on under the water surface. We saw tons of barracuda and other fish with beautiful colors. Some people on our boat saw a shark and turtle, so they were close by. It felt good to be back out on the beach with that beautiful blue water.
We had a busy few days because our time was limited down there, but we tried to make the most of it.
