Highlands Hammock State Park

I have some catching up to do.  I haven't written on here in a few weeks and there have been a few relocations since then.  Last time I wrote we had just the south part of Florida and it seemed like there was an imaginary line that we crossed over around Lake Okeechobee that went from warm weather to less warm weather.  It was still warm, but not shorts and tees anymore.

We went from CB Smith Park down near Miami to a state park a couple of hours north, called Highlands Hammock.  We really liked this park.  We are starting to be a little picky.  Bathrooms were close, great sink area with 5 stations for washing dishes, wifi, potluck night on Wednesday nights, jam and biscuits on Thursday mornings, concerts 2 of the nights we were there, lots of kids for the girls to meet with a great playground in the campsite area.  The girls came back to our site with red cheeks looking for water every few hours.  There was a nice town (Sebring, FL) very close and the hiking and biking trails were all close by the campground.  To top all of that off we met some super great people there.  Friends I hope to know for a long time.

Periodically we rank our favorite sites and that one has consistently been in the top 3 for all of us.

We could only think of one con for that park and it was that the sites were a little close.  Our last night we had a group of good ole boys having a guys weekend and we heard them all night.  Other than that it was a great stop.  I would recommend it to anyone headed that way.
Deer up ahead
While we were there we took part in all of the fun they had going on and the rest of the time we recovered from our whirlwind stop in Miami.  The hiking trails were nice and I saw two snakes while we were there.

I was hiking along with Luna telling her to keep an eye out for gators when I saw movement by my foot.  I let go of my daughter's hand and ran screaming down the trail.  All I heard was, "Mommy what in the heck is wrong with you?"  :)
