More Tiny Towns

I could probably write this blog entry with one sentence because we are in Palisades, ID and our campground is the only thing here :)  Just joking, but close.  Not sure of the population here, but I'm thinking it's in the teens.  The gas station here is the hardware store and the grocery store. :)

We drove up from Bear Lake with a dip back into Wyoming and returned to Idaho.  Country roads and small towns were again the theme of this drive.  Those are my favorite kind.

Fields and mountains on the drive.
Passing through the little town of Afton, WY.  Those are elk antlers making up the arch over the road.
The last half hour of the drive was on a beautiful mountain side next to the Palisades Reservoir. Incredible views of the water and mountains together.  I didn't get any pictures to share here, but they never really capture it exactly anyways.

Our campground is small and sweet with quite a few trees, which is very important.  The playground is super close to our camper, which is great for watching the girls.

The property just in front of our campsite and Luna dreaming about having a horse of her own.
It is 4th of July weekend and the place was almost full the first evening we were here.  Had great neighbors and now friends, John and Rebecca.  Besides seeing all the things we have been seeing, meeting all of the great people we have met has been such a great part of this journey.

While we were visiting this area we had a few boo boo's on the camper to fix.  On top of the ongoing list of things to fix, the skylight and tail light that I broke at the previous stop, we had to add the awning to our list.  We woke up on our first morning in Palisades, opened the awning and midway out it made a bad noise and dropped into the extended position.  Yikes!  So a drive to Idaho Falls was in order.  We never know when we'll be close to a Camping World, so we took the opportunity to stock up on some supplies.  Diego and our neighbor John were able to take the awning apart and find the problem, fix it and we just had to wait 15 hours until we could bring it back to the in position.  I should have taken a picture of that :)  It made it a little tricky to get in and out of the camper.

That night we all had a barbecue together and relaxed after a warm day.

That night we met another great family, had a campfire together and plan to see them closer to their home town near Coure d'Alene, ID.

We were versed in the places to see in Yellowstone and some good local brew.  Thanks Andy and Annie :)

A shady nap.
We made it out to the Palisades Reservoir on July 4th for a dip in the water.  It was a little chilly for me, but felt refreshing after sitting in the sun for a while.  The girls found their friends from the campsite out there, so they played on their kayak for a while.

In the evening we followed the directions given to us to watch the fireworks.  It turned out to be the side of the road in this tiny town.  We weren't expecting much, but holy cow were we surprised.  The fireworks were pretty spectacular.  We had the funny drunk guy in the car across from us that kept saying:"This is so beautiful, man!"  It added to our entertainment :)

Waiting for the fireworks to start.

After a lot of the campground cleared out from the holiday we headed out on a drive to Victor, ID and then into Jackson Hole, WY to check out the area where we would be meeting my brother and family the following week.  It was not far and while we have been fine walking into the unknown each week, we felt a little more responsibility this time because they were flying in from Florida.

Our departure day fell on Luna's 8th birthday.  After waking up she enjoyed our beautiful Happy Birthday melody and then went through her cards and a few gifts.

One of those was a beautiful tunic made by her sister.
