Southwest England

We have been in Plymouth for the past 10 days.  It is located on the peninsula in the southwest part of England. This peninsula is mostly part of the county of Cornwall, which is where many of the British go for holiday (aka: vacation).  Plymouth is just outside of Cornwall in Devon County.  The weather was much more organized down here and although we had several stereotypical grey days we also had quite a few beautiful days.

The ocean was right out our window and we watched the ships coming in and out of the port.  Our Airbnb apartment was great.  In walking distance to everything and beautiful views.

The city has a lot of history including ties to the Mayflower and the Titanic.  The hoe, is a big park over looking the water. The cobble stone streets and tea shops are all over.

We made several day trips while we were there.  One was to see Stonehenge.  It was cool to see.
Sofia has made the comment before that some of these famous places seem regular when you're right in front of them.  Unimpressive.  We had them do a little research about why Stonehenge was famous so we could get a better grasp of why we should drive so far to see rocks all piled up.

Another day trip was to St. Ives.  It's a beach town on the west coast of England.  The water looked so inviting and it was pretty warm outside, so the girls stuck their toes in.  Nope.  Still freezing.  We watched kids just swimming like it was nothing, but it was truly cold.  Most of the teenagers had wet suits on and were jumping from the docks.

St. Ives
In Plymouth we had many days of walking the Hoe, visiting the Mayflower museum, boat tour and afternoon teas.

An afternoon tea
Took the girls to the Tinside Pool to swim.  They lasted 20 minutes because of the cold water :(

We've covered a lot of ground this past month in England.  We experienced the bipolar weather that can't make up it's mind which way it's going, the beautiful country side, beaches and city life.
We've had a lot of tea.  That's one stereotype that seems to be true.  It is a custom that I get.  Everyone seems to stop what there doing for a short time and come together to talk.  I like it.

England did seem to be stuck in a bit of a time warp.  Anytime we turned on the TV the local shows had the feel of the 80's.  The home decorating shows looked like the wallpaper from the 70's.  It was the wallpaper that HGTV is currently ripping out of homes:)  The radio stations were almost non-existent.  I did hear some cars pass with good music playing so I'm thinking maybe you have to pay for that service.
Also, it seems that the government has a pretty big presence in your life over here, so that was bit of a turn off.

However, all said and done, our little glimpse into England was very nice.  The people were friendly, the countryside and small villages were very sweet, and the cobblestone streets were charming.
